DIY Credit Repair: Step 1

Having bad credit is costing you a lot of money and aggravation.  There are things that you can do to make the situation better.  You may not be able to clear up every negative thing on your credit report but even removing some of the negative information can drive your score up enough to make life a little bit better.  The best thing to keep in mind as you go through this process is be realistic by knowing that you will not be able to fix everything and also that It’s going to take some time to get results.  So let’s get started.

Step 1 - Order your credit reports

Before you can do anything you need to find out what is on your credit profile at the three credit reporting agencies; Equifax, TransUnion and Experian.  They all have slightly different information so it’s going to be important to order all three reports.  You can order them directly from the agencies but they don’t give a complete report with your score on it.  There are sites that will give you a free tri-merge report.  The best one is:

CreditReport.com - Click on the link, complete basic information and they send you a free tri-merge report.

If you want to get the reports directly from the bureaus you will have to contact them each separately and go through a similar process.  The bureaus are listed below.
